Meet Michael Wann
Michael Wann is a highly dedicated Advanced Care Paramedic and clinical educator with a 20-year career focused on excellence in pre-hospital care, clinical education, and rural and remote medicine. He currently serves as a Clinical Educator specialising in the Community Paramedic role for a jurisdictional ambulance service. In this role, Michael leverages his extensive experience to lead, mentor, and promote professionalism among current clinicians and future paramedics.
Beginning his journey with QAS as a Student Paramedic in September 2006, Michael progressed to an Advanced Care Paramedic Level 2 by 2012. Michael completed his first community paramedic education in 2016, sparking a great interest in clinical assessment and diagnostics. This led to several tertiary course completions through Deakin University and Edith Cowan University, where Michael holds a Master of Paramedic Practitioner. Throughout his tenure, he has held numerous clinical, educational, and leadership positions, including Manager of Clinical Education, Senior Clinical Educator, and Officer in Charge. As a Clinical Educator, he maintains his Community Paramedic skillset, oversees the education and support of Community Paramedics, and assists in developing clinical assessments. Furthermore, he contributes significantly to clinical governance programs, clinical investigations, and initiatives that foster positive patient outcomes. His diverse skill set is augmented by his certification as a Level 2 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Operator, with specialised training in vertical, trench, and confined-space rescue.
Michael was drawn to education after a “tumultuous” time at school. Michael has always struggled to study and learn due to diagnosed learning difficulties. Despite this, Michael has gone on to lecture at universities, be a clinical presenter for the Australasian College of Paramedics and chair the Primary Care Conference for the Australasian College of Paramedics.
From an educational perspective, Michael believes that if he can do it, then anyone can do it.
