Meet Mel Alexander

With over 23 years of dedicated prehospital experience, Mel is an Extended Care Paramedic (ECP), Intensive Care Paramedic (ICP) and Paramedic Practitioner (PP) currently delivering advanced care within an interdisciplinary team at a rural Urgent Care Centre in South Australia. Her clinical foundation is built on extensive critical and urgent care experience, having served as a Registered Nurse in paediatric intensive care, adult emergency, critical care, and coronary care before entering paramedicine.

Mel is a champion for health equity, community paramedicine, geriatrics, wound care, palliative care, and clinical education. A key contributor to national practice standards and health policy, she serves as the Advanced Practice Paramedic representative on the AHPRA Advanced Practice Expert Advisory Panel and actively contributes to both the ACP Drugs & Poisons Licensing and Women in Paramedicine Special Interest Groups.

Currently pursuing her PhD on “Optimising pre-hospital hip fracture management with NSQHS standards,” Mel serves as the inaugural paramedic representative on the Australian and New Zealand Hip Fracture Registry Special Interest Group. She is a sought-after educator and regular presenter at international paramedicine conferences, dedicated to driving patient-centred outcomes and advancing the scope of community paramedicine.
